Dear Backers,

Here’s the fortnightly update on the TINY1. We’re always very excited to receive excellent footage from the TINY1 camera community.

The latest one was a series of JPEG images from Kristabel, who captured the Northern Lights in Norway with the TINY1 camera.

The initial images were underexposed, but the final footage was encouraging. We expect to see better and better images as more cameras are delivered and better exposure automation.

Kristabel is an avid aurora hunter. You can find out more about her trips here http://bit.ly/2hLIh2l

She is also organizing an Aurora tour. You can get the details from here http://bit.ly/2mK5a80

Delivery

We have delivered another 138 cameras over the last week.

On 1st December, we are expecting to push out a software update utility for all backers, including the latest delivery batch, to update their cameras. It will fix most major bugs.

We have also created a new video in the how to series for lens adapters. Please check out the series here: http://bit.ly/2zTrUHq

The latest quickstart guide for the last delivery batch is available here: http://tinymos.com/quickstart

We highly recommend that backers join the Facebook group started by fellow TinyMOS backers for support and feedback.

Manufacture

We received 299 PCB from our manufacturer. Currently we are in process of approving the latest revision of the plastic LCD tray for mass production. The estimated cycle time is 2 weeks for the parts, 2 weeks for assembly and shipping. We are scheduling for another delivery of to 300-400 cameras during the 11th December shipping estimate.

Overview

We are 30 cameras ahead of schedule in this batch. We expect the next two batches to be consolidated into the mid-December batch.

The estimated schedule for delivery is as follows:

13th - 21st November - 138/108 units Completed

11th December - 300-400 units

26th December - 200-300 units

Sincerely,

Grey

Dear Backers,

Here’s the fortnightly update on the TINY1. Here’s a photo taken by TINY1 by a TinyMOS supporter, Kenneth. It is a shot of the Milky Way taken on a ship in New Zealand.

It is the first time someone outside of the TinyMOS team took a photo of the Milky Way. We’re very excited about it. Notice the pitch black silhouette of the mountains. It is a truly pristine dark site.

Delivery

We are working around the clock to get the OTA (Over The Air) updates done. We had good progress on the development but met an unexpected roadblock. The security signing is not producing a valid image that the camera can successfully verify during update. It will cause issues with the updating process and potentially damage the camera.

The progress on manufacturing and assembly is progressing well. We’re getting the software side to catch up with the timelines. Thank you for your patience.

Manufacture

The manufacturing of the PCB is proceeding smoothly. We are expecting 200 units to be shipped to us on Monday, one day ahead of schedule and arriving next week. I will be in touch with the assembly side to ensure a smooth transition to assembly.

Assembly

Assembly of 108 cameras are in progress right now. As the new PCBs are expected to arrive next week, we are intending to process them as 1 allotment. The OTA enabled software will then be installed on the cameras before shipping, to ensure that updates can be applied safely.

Overview

The delivery progress is dependent on the OTA software patches, as it will enable safe and easy updating of software from your side.

We are hesitant to deliver the cameras without the OTA software as it will require significant effort from the users to update the camera, including downloading Android studio and several tools. The process could also damage the camera if not properly performed.

Backers with urgent trips can write into us and we’ll try to support.

The estimated schedule for delivery is as follows:

13th - 21st November - 108 units

28th November - 200 units

11th December - 200 units

26th December - 200 units

9th January 170 units

Currently we are ahead of schedule for the PCB electronics. We are doing what we can to provide the stable software to progress with delivery.

Sincerely,

Grey

Dear Backers,

It was Deepavali yesterday (or today, depending on your timezone among other things), also known as Diwali or Festival of Lights. Happy Deepavali/Diwali to our Indian backers and I hope backers from Singapore had a good mid-week public holiday!

Here's the fortnightly update

Delivery

The development of the software update is still on track for end October delivery. We’re waiting to confirm OTA (Over the Air) updates by next week. Once OTA is ready, we can release the software, as it will allow backers to stay on updated software that is stable and see more features added. We'll confirm the schedule for software release as it happens. Most likely during the next scheduled update.

We met with our manufacturers several times last week to confirm a few of the production detail. We’ve confirmed that they have the capacity and parts to manufacture the products for delivery. We’re scheduling to start the manufacturing on 25th October for the next 150 boards.

Regarding the later orders, we have tied down our manufacturing of the electronics. The top half of the board has already been assembled and going through partial inspection. Next week we will see the boards going through assembly of the bottom half. Thereafter it will go for a full inspection before we receive it.

The schedule we are expecting the parts to ship to us is as follows:

7th November - 200 units

21st November - 200 units

5th December - 200 units

19th December 150 units

The dates above are the dates the board ship to us. Handling and customs may take another week or so. We’re scheduling with the manufacturing and assembly side to provide a delivery schedule to provide a more accurate forecast.

Pre-delivery preparation

Several backers tell us that they do not get notification to the updates. We’re leaving the pre-delivery preparation videos here for easy reference!

Dear Backers,

It was the mid-autumn festival yesterday, also known as the lunar festival. Hope some of you got to image the full moon yesterday. It is the start of the rainy season in Singapore, so there’s no luck for us! If you did, do share it on the Facebook group. http://bit.ly/2xvOqC2

Delivery

The development of the software update is still on track for end October delivery.

We are now coordinating with our manufacturers to restart the manufacturing process. Our initial restart of manufacturing should see production of 150 more cameras for delivery. That covers most of the super early bird orders.

Current schedule puts us at restarting electronic board production at the end of the 2nd week of October. The schedule due to allocation of manufacturing line from our electronic board supplier. The manufacturing itself should be completed in a week. Testing and delivery to us would take a week or two. We are coordinating with all parties now to bring the delivery ahead.

Other details

The Qualcomm Quick Charge charging issue will be fixed with the October software patch as well. We will guide existing camera owners through the patching process. Please do not use Quick Charge chargers until the software has been updated or the camera will still get damaged!

Backers receiving the cameras after the October batch will not face the issue with Qualcomm Quick Charger chargers as it will be released with the updated software.

Pre-delivery preparation

Many backers who have received the cameras have been asking us for more user manuals and guides on how to use the cameras. We have started a mini-guide series covering the basics of operating the TINY1 camera. If you found it useful, let us know in the comments section and we’ll make more of such videos to help with the user interface and more advanced help.

Dear Backers,

Here is the fortnightly update.

It’s been an exciting 2 weeks for us. We were featured on local news in Singapore twice! First on Money Week in Channel 8 and then on Channel NewsAsia’s breakfast segment called First Look Asia. The TEDx talk I gave in Ubud was also released by the official TEDx YouTube Channel.

Here are the links to the news coverage and my talk:

I speak about my personal journey from an arts student to having the idea for TinyMOS and making it possible.

Development

We are still working on the software update. Most of the work right now involves fixing bugs so we can have the full feature set working on your device.

In addition to the several issues that the software update will fix, we will also be able to fix the Qualcomm Quick Charge issues via the new software update.

We’re on schedule for the providing the new firmware for existing owners of the camera. You can expect this release in late October.

Delivery

Delivery is still following the same schedule as the last update. It will start in late October. We aim to ship at least 150 units in this batch. Most of the super early bird backers can expect their orders to be fulfilled. For all other backers, it will be the subsequent batch in November. The size of batches will considerably increase, and gap between each batch will also reduce.

We have initiated the manufacturing for the full order. We’re getting updates for manufacturing status of the later orders in the coming weeks and will keep you all posted.

Support

We are committed to provide full support for any problems you’re facing. Please write to us at [email protected] if you face any problems with the camera or have any other queries. Someone from my team or I will help you out. Please note that since the volume of emails we’re receiving has considerably increased and we’re still a small team, the response may be delayed up to 4-5 days. We request for your patience so we can help everyone out.

Best regards,
Grey
