TINY1 Backer Update
Dear Backers,
Here’s the fortnightly update on the project. The delay to this update was due to extended testing of the TINY1 camera in the lab and in the field. Thank you for your patience.
Delivery
Currently we have shipped 75% of all crowdfunding orders so far. We are working on supplying the shortages we’ve faced so far closely with our suppliers.
We received several feedback that backers who received cameras in the last shipment batch did not receive their 100mm lens. We’ve informed the fulfilment house to put in a note to inform backers of the shortages and that we intend to make good the shortfall. We apologize that the note was not clear and for any inconvenience caused.
Updates
While working on the delivery, we are also improving the TINY1 software as much as possible.

Sample image of test chart using the TINY1.
Over the past week we took the TINY1 camera to the image calibration lab. The calibration allows the camera to reproduce color with greater fidelity than before. The TINY1 imaged the standard Macbeth ColorChecker under 7 standard illumination target under various calibration settings. The improvements will be put in the next software update.
We also took the TINY1 for a field test to Malaysia to get the first hand experience of the 1.7.6 firmware and improve on the camera software and experience.
The camera’s overall operations was much better than all earlier firmwares.
The GPS works admirably if the on-boarding steps are closely adhered to (initial setup, connecting to WiFi, setting correct timezone and setting automatic time). We noticed that the compass could be wrong if the camera is left stationary too long. We recommend using this figure of 8 motion for a few seconds to calibrate the compass if it appears to be wrong:

We tested an extended timelapse for the milky way with the IR cut filter set to off.
The timelapse was expected to take 240 60 second images. At approximately 120 images, we terminated the capture as a thunderstorm approached. The camera failed to display the timelapse on the in camera gallery, but all images were saved and visible when plugged into the PC/Mac. We plan to fix this bug in future builds.
The camera had over 30% battery left after the 2 hour long continuous operations. We do recommend switching off the GPS and WiFi to conserve battery during extended operations if external power is not available.

60 seconds ISO 200. Captured with TINY1 with 2.8mm Ultrawide angle lens.
We will release more images captured in the next update.
Remote application
The team is working on remote control of the camera application in the moment. The user interface has been designed. We expect a preliminary release in a month or so.
Thank you for your support.
Best regards,
Grey

Dear Backers,
Here’s the fortnightly update on the project.
TinyMOS’s development team has been working round the clock to work on the most stable software for the TINY1 camera till date. This is a major improvement to all previous updates. Updating to previous versions is not required. You may update to this version from any previous software version of the TINY1. The instructions and links are provided at the end of this backer update.
Software update change log:
The latest update (version 1.7.6) has a much better onboarding screen. Following the prompts will guide you to the most frequently used features on the camera. Particularly, setting up the prerequisite steps for getting accurate GPS readings.
- Better stability and self recovery in the reduced likelihood of a crash.
- Image quality for video is improved with higher bitrate settings as default and lower bitrate settings as options.
- Timelapse function correctly builds the video timelapses when the camera is charging (saves battery). Allowing you to preview and build timelapse videos in camera.
- Gallery performance is improved. Timelapse folder glitches are resolved.
Improved user guide:
We’ve compiled a much more detailed user guide for TINY1 backers. It is available for download here: https://bit.ly/2r12Ed7
Delivery update:
We have received feedback from backers that it is very time-consuming to update the camera repeatedly and send them back to us in the event of a bad crash. We’ve decided that working on a major software update, instead of multiple small ones, will help significantly with user experience.
As such, we’ve withheld the shipments until this software version is ready.
We’ll have a meeting with the manufacturing facility to update all existing cameras in stock to the new software version before restarting fulfilment.
The delivery is expected to resume in 2 weeks with 200+ boards in this batch.

Dear Backers,
Here’s the fortnightly update on the project.
We’re working on the next major software update. The update today will be an interim one.
Improved start-up guide:

We’re improving the start-up guide to smoothen the onboarding process. The camera will now guide users through the necessary steps to get the GPS & Star Map working.
We are also fixing a few bugs recently found in V1.5.1 including a boot loop problem.
Major Bug Report:
Please do not use the Timelapse video function. Several combinations of settings involving video in Timelapse mode can cause the camera to malfunction.
Delivery estimate:
230 cameras in the previous update were shipped out. The factory is currently assembling the next 80 cameras. We’re following up closely with the factory for the subsequent batch.
As always, thank you for your generous support.
Best regards,
Grey

Dear Backers,
Here’s the fortnightly update on the project.
We’ve completed an interim software update. The latest update is optional and does not address the latest bugs yet, but it is an upgrade for stability. We highly recommend performing the update. By popular request, we are producing a more detailed user guide for the camera, details below.

User guide:
We’re producing a detailed user guide for our backers. As more backers get their TINY1 cameras, we get a better picture of the user guides required. The first user guide of this series is a more detailed version of the quick start guide. It also has the updated user interface graphics to assist in using the camera more accurately.
In the works are also user guides that will teach backers to use the camera to capture astronomy objects step by step.
Download the User guide here: http://bit.ly/2oHIMtC
Here's the video version previously available for your convenience: http://bit.ly/2yK2YOP
Delivery estimate:
We are flashing the latest software update on the 230 cameras that are going out. That allows us to reduce the number of updates backers are required to perform when receiving. We have the packing labels and parts already on standby for delivery once the software update is completed.
Estimated ship date for the 230 cameras are 6-7th March 2018.

Software update is hosted here: http://bit.ly/2FNf3aY
Please unzip the file before use.
As it is an interim update, only Windows version will be released. The next firmware update will come with the enhancements in this version.
For detailed update instructions please refer to this Backer Update: http://bit.ly/2t8RSFo
Thank you everyone for your support and kind patience.
Best regards,
