Dear Backers,
Here's the fortnightly update!

Development

We’re happy to announce that we have made great progress on the development of the camera.

Progress log

  • Tiny1 prototype now fits in the enclosure, operating independent of any computer or external power supply.
  • Touch screen resolution is fixed
  • Touch sensitivity and consistency is calibrated
  • Image preview and JPEG capture is fixed
  • Tiny1 is running the latest version of our camera software
  • WIFI 2.4GHz is working

What needs to be done

  • RAW capture
  • High speed capture
  • Bringing up gyroscope, GPS, compass and accelerometer for star map guidance
  • WIFI 5GHz for high speed connection
  • Sensor profile and calibration
  • Capture presets and noise reduction

Most of the development processes are now on the software side. We’re working closely with Qualcomm for the support of the development still required.

We’re confident to cross more off this list on the next update.

Shenzhen/Hong Kong supplier trip

We went to Shenzhen and Hong Kong last week to ensure the quality of our components. We visited suppliers' manufacturing lines and determined that they’re reputable. They use well documented processes and sensitive electronics are manufactured in clean rooms with necessary ESD protection.

The final manufacturing and assembly will be performed in Singapore where we can keep a closer eye on the quality of the Tiny1 that reaches your hand.

We received the prototype of our new lens adapter we updated just 2 weeks ago! We're impressed and hope you'll be too.

Manufacturing updates

Manufacturing is making good progress. We’re expecting the next revision to be manufactured in January 2017. Those units will go for testing to ensure quality units reaches your hands in Q1 2017.

More accessories are making their way to us as well.

1000 units of the 4mm wide angle lens reached our office. They came neatly in trays.

CES 2016

We’re going for the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January. If you’re heading there, let us know. We’ll be bringing prototypes over. Hopefully we'll get the new revision boards to demo as well.

Dear Backers,

Here’s the fortnightly update. We’ve some mixed news on our side, we ask for your patience as we go through them in detail.

Super Early Bird and Early Bird deliveries are expected to be delayed to Q1 2017.

We are immensely sorry about this delay. We know that many of you have plans to use the Tiny1 camera on trips planned in this December and many others who planned it as a Christmas gift. Our team has tried our best to contain the delay but it has happened.

The reason for the delay is because we could not acquire some of the key components in time. The parts are proprietary and cannot be bought on the open market. The lead time of the parts ballooned from 12 weeks to 18 weeks while we were sorting out the development hiccups we’ve shared earlier.

As a very small customer to the component manufacturers, we are quite powerless to influence the delivery timeline of the chips. As the contracts for manufacturing are firm now, we’re unlikely to face further delays to the delivery. If they manage to expedite the parts to us, we will keep you updated.

Once again, we’re very sorry for the delays in delivery.

Development updates:

On the brighter side, development has made significant progress!

We have a manufacturing prototype!

The first manufacturing prototype booted up successfully this morning. We’re doing software tests on the device. It’s a big moment for us. 2 years and 7 months of work is validated and now feels worthwhile. We’re close to the end and a to new beginning.

We have redesigned the lens adapters with significant improvements

The lens adapter now comes with a removable lens clamp. It makes the adapter much more portable and durable than before.

Here’s a photo of the 3D design.

We’ll be heading to Hong Kong to visit the manufacturer for our lens adapter next week.

Parts are coming in

We’ve also received several of our deliverables in our office, including the TinyMOS Tripod and the USB cable that will be shipped with all Tiny1 cameras.

Dear Backers,

Here are the fortnightly updates!

Surveys

Thank you for completing the BackerKit survey, 95% of the backers have now filled it up. Your choice of color, shipping address, and any add-ons is recorded. For those who have not filled it out, we’ve extended the deadline to 30th October. Kindly fill up the survey by following the link emailed to you or here - https://tiny1.backerkit.com/

Getting to Know You - This next survey is for us to know you and your preferences better. Your answers will help us design and launch better products. Each question is optional and the entire survey will take less than 60 seconds. We would really appreciate if you take the time to fill it, here it is - https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/tiny1_backers

Development

You would remember from our earlier updates that V2.2 board has been brought up. We’ve fixed the resolution issue mentioned earlier. Positioning sensors are also now online. We had a slight hiccup in integrating the imaging sensor, but that too has been solved right now, thanks to the support of the Qualcomm team and our sensor supplier.

Manufacturing - 2 great news!!

We have placed the order for all the parts, yes all 1000 of each! Now, depending on the lead time for each part, they will start streaming in at our manufacturing partner’s facility. We will visit this facility as most of the parts arrive and the manufacturing begins. Expect pictures from our visit in the coming updates.

Arrow Certified! Arrow Electronics, one of the largest global electronics component supplier and a Fortune 500 company has reviewed our design and found it to be ready for production. This is a major sign of trust for us as first-time hardware entrepreneurs and our backers, thank you for your support! Check out the badge on our campaign page.

Packaging

Here’s the first draft of our packaging design. This has been designed in-house by Grey. The camera will come in a hard paper box, with velvet coated foam for protection. Let us know what you think about the design, we would love to incorporate your inputs.

Cheers,

Ashprit

BackerKit Surveys are out!

Hello everyone!

We sent an email with a special link to BackerKit surveys today. It is important to respond to your survey as quickly as you can since we need this information for fulfilling your rewards. More than 30% of backers have already responded to the survey and many have helped us solve some with comments and messages, thank you so much! We really appreciate your enthusiasm and support. Those who haven't completed the survey yet, please check your inbox for the link.

You do not need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey, just click on the survey link, fill it out, and you’re all good to go! You will be able to answer questions about your color preferences, provide shipping information, and pledge for more “add-ons” if you'd like.

Important Note: Backers who have ordered accessories will receive the survey with Tiny1 pre-selected and the dollar value of the accessories in credit. You will have to select the accessories from the Add-on page. Let us know if there's any issue with this, and we'll sort it out.

If you decide later that you want to edit your survey response, you can go back to your survey and change it anytime before we lock down the surveys for processing.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you will be able to recover your survey here: http://tiny1.backerkit.com.

If you use your Facebook login for your Indiegogo account, the BackerKit survey will be sent to the email you used for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you would prefer to use, please contact support at http://tiny1.backerkit.com/faq and we'll take care of it!

Thanks everyone,

Ashprit
